Speaker Highlight : Eugene E. Declercq PhD, MBA

Eugene E. Declercq PhD, MBA is the first speaker at the Campion Fund-Frontier Nursing University one day meeting on Reducing Maternal Mortality: Strategies that Work to be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Frontier Nursing University, Versailles, Kentucky. Dr. Declercq is Professor of Community Health, Boston University School of Public Health and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Boston University School of Medicine. His topic is “Birth by the Numbers”.  He was educated in political science and is certified in childbirth education. He is internationally known for his extensive research on maternal mortality and morbidity in the United States . Beginning in 1998 he and colleagues established  Pregnancy to Early Life Longitudinal (PELL) data system that links vital statistics, hospital and administrative data on over 1,200,00 Massachusetts births. The author of over 190 scientific articles he has received consistent funding from the NIH.  He was awarded a PhD from Florida State University and a MBA from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. During his career he as been awarded the Martha May Elliot Award from the American Public Health Association and the Greg Alexander Award for research in maternal child health epidemiology given by the Coalition for Excellence in MCH Epidemiology.  This coalition consists of sixteen organizations in the field, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Declercq is a current member of the Massachusetts Maternal Mortality Review Committee. He will share is considerable expertise with meeting attendees.  One recent paper is: Declercq E, Thoma M.
